Ahhh thread derailed. >_<
Another tidbit:
During the Factions preview event, I'd made a Rit/Nec to test the new animated undead. I'd taken two healer henchies with me. I went afk for over an hour(? give or take, I forget) in an instance, and when I returned, the healers had kept two fiends alive, desperately fighting the -10 degen. Sad thing is, they were pulling it off.

One time, just to test Henchie heal power, I took 7 of them with me into Abaddon's Mouth. Upon reaching the front gate I took a sharp right and centered myself and the team in the large lava pool there. I wanted to see how long we could last before degen became >hench... it never did. I ragequit after a while when I decided it was too boring.

With the upcoming AI update for henchies, will they still be as usefull?
I'd hate it when I invite Alesia and she ragequits in the middle of the mission because she is surrounded by Stefan and Little Thom who rush in everything we see.

Heh. I had a similar experience recently with Iron Mines of Moladune - the only PUG I could find insisted on running to the seer (and didn't even seem to know the proper way to do it - they seemed to absolutely refuse to run as a group to force the mobs to either split their fire or let people through unscathed) so after the third failure I decided that I'd fought much harder mobs with henchmen than anything in the mission. Sure, fighting through does take longer than the typical 'infusion run', but it's certainly faster than multiple failed attempts at running...

PLus there's all the nifty gold and experience, too.

Actually I prefer to hench Elona, I've had so many problems with that mission because people just wouldn't play as a team.

But that is cool, I might have to try that out... Actually anyone with fraps feel like doing that??? Hench Dunes and leave the henchies to do the end part themselves? I'd love to see a vid of it.

Just cast Restore Life on yourself, I don't understand what the problem is?

That brings me around to the concept of skills that require touching yourself...

Henchmen > PUG's on most occasions.

However, there are two things about henchmen that bug me:

1) The healer henchies insist on resurrecting their mate should he/she fall in combat above EVERYTHING else. This usually goes down as Mhenlo running in the middle of a mob to use Restore life on Lina and kills himself in the process too. Why can't they have the other henchmen use rez signets in-combat and let the remaining healer concentrate on healing?

2) If the monsters steer clear of AoE damage, why can't henchmen? They stand happily in a meteor shower and/or lava.

And one more: 3) The fighter henchmen should know to break off from fighting when appropriate. You just can't have Thom and Devona retreat (or God forbid, pull).

More than once I hav gone AFK when I thought I was in a clear area, only to come back and find dead bodies and loot strewn about from some patrolling mobs, and the henchies still standing there waiting for me.

Yeah, I hate this. And if the human player has a resurrect skill (not rez sig) and is dead in a safe place, the henchies should resurrect the player first. The human is often smart enough to run until things cool down. The henchies aren't. I can't tell you how many times I've yelled at my monitor when one of the healer henchies is resurrecting another one in the middle of battle, while I'm lying off at some distance where I could be safely resurrected, run, regroup, and try again.

The healer henchies also seem slow to recognize that someone's health is being drained.

Agreed. Obviously Anet knows how to program that into the AI--it did it for monsters.

As for the ascension missions, my warrior henched all three of them without too much trouble. She's currently at Iron Mines of Moladune and has henched everything so far except one bonus and one optional quest.

I have several other characters. On the weekend, I made it a point to group with other humans, since GW is an online multiplayer game. The only thing it accomplished was to make me consider giving up on playing GW. About 15% of the groups were decent, but even with those, everyone tends to rush through the mission. The others were lousy--juvenile behavior, going afk, dropping out with no warning, no coordination, no listening to anyone who was trying to lead, a seeming lack of understanding of how to use the skills they have. I'll stick with GW and I'll stick with henchies unless I'm having mega-problems with a mission and just want to get it done.

Most of the human GW players make the henchies look like mensa members.

The funny thing is that you can say this wherever you go and nobody will feel insulted. We all think of ourselves as being 1337 players. Even the biggest noob in GW will still think you're talking about someone else

That's true. I think the real test is to see if you can hench through a lot of the quests and missions. If you can, you're probably competent. I'm positive that some people ALWAYS group and ride on the skill of others, so they never really learn how to use their skills effectively. I see people LFG in pre-searing, and I ain't talking about charr hunting.

One thing you can do when you hench it is experiment with different skill combinations and strategies. If something doesn't work and you find yourself in trouble, the henchies don't drop or call you a noob.

Just for a side-note, I just did The Dragon's Lair Mission with 7 Henchmen and my level 16 R/Me, but we failed to kill Glint by about a fracture of HP.
